Management Team

Ismaila Wane, President & CTO
As the founder and principal architect, Ismaila brings his cross-disciplinary background to carry out the company’s overall strategy while overseeing operations.
With over 7 years in the mobile industry, Ismaila has extensive
knowledge and hands-on experience with NFC
technology. He previously worked as a software engineer and
technical leader at NXP Semiconductors (formerly Philips
Semiconductors) in Sophia-Antipolis, France where he rapidly gained a
world-class expertise in NFC technology. At NXP, Ismaila was
instrumental in the early design and development of the mobile initiative
for MIFARE®, the most widespread contactless technology worldwide used in transportation, ticketing and
access management applications. He began his career within
NXP’s mobile software group focusing on integrating Java virtual machines into mobile
phones and implementing specification requests such as smart card application programming interfaces.
Ismaila holds a
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the University of
Arizona, and a Master’s degree in Information and
Communication Sciences from the University of Nice
Sophia-Antipolis.


Karsten Ohme, VP of
Engineering
With a solid expertise
in smart card technology, Karsten is responsible of product development and security architecture definition.
Karsten brings his world-class technical experience working as a software engineer in the multimedia division of T-Systems, a sister company of T-Mobile where he has been involved in cutting-edge enterprise software projects.
He is the creator and lead developer of the world’s only open-source tool implementing the GlobalPlatform standard which is the de-facto standard for smart card management endorsed by card associations such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express and JCB.
Karsten is also an active contributor of the BouncyCastle project, the leading open-source java cryptographic engine, and Microlog, a Log4j-like logging framework
for Java ME and Android -based mobile devices.
Karsten holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Technical University of Dresden in Germany.


Kathleen Pacyna, VP of
Marketing
With over 20 years of experience in the software industry, Kathleen is responsible of leading marketing efforts and corporate communication activities.
Earlier in her career, Kathleen led the worldwide strategic market segment for Customer Relationship Management in Corporate Market Development at Sun Microsystems (now Oracle) where she managed a virtual team of 150+ individuals to develop Sun's vision, strategy, messaging and execute a global go-to-market program delivering Java, Solaris, SPARC based solutions for Sales, Marketing, Customer Service and Support via telephony, web, and mobile customer touch points across vertical industries. As a result, Sun became the platform of choice in approximately 40% of all enterprise CRM deployments through a portfolio of software partners. For example, after recruiting Siebel Systems (now Oracle) as a partner to the Sun platform and growing the relationship to Tier 1 status (one of the top fourteen ISVs for Sun), she managed the strategic alliance and drove licensed software revenue on Sun from $275M to $400M and 32% market share.
Kathleen was previously Director of Marketing & Public Relations at Ventaso, Inc, a VC-funded enterprise software and services solution startup for sales and marketing effectiveness with a dynamic document and content management engine. At Digital Equipment Corporation (now Hewlett-Packard) in the the mid nineties, Kathleen was Sr. Global Internet Server Business Development Manager. In this capacity, Kathleen led the worldwide Internet Program for the Application Server Reseller Initiative, focused on driving volume sales of AlphaServers through channels. Results included AlphaServers having the fastest growth rate in the low-end server market (IDC, DataQuest). Kathleen started her career as Marketing Manager at Oasys, Inc. a software development tools distributor which offered one of the first commercially available C++ compilers in the market. Oasys was later acquired by Green Hills Software, an embedded software tools provider.
Kathleen holds a Bachelor's degree in Finance and Management from Simmons College in Boston, Massachussetts.


James Tenser, VP of
Consumer & Retail Strategy
A retail industry veteran, James is responsible for the development of the consumer and retail strategy.
Since forming his consultancy firm, VSN Strategies, in 1997, James has assisted such clients as: Dial Corporation, American Express, Del Monte Fresh Produce, Eastman Kodak, DemandTec, Tree of Life/Gourmet Award Foods, PRN Networks, Cisco Systems, HP and many more. He is a founding member and director of the In-Store Implementation Network.
James was principal of the Retail & Consumer Products practice at Nexgenix, Inc. In this capacity he led business opportunity assessment, strategy and delivery for clients in this sector. He was responsible for the company's commerce and content management, customer relationship management, and marketing analytics services offerings.
He is frequently quoted in national and international media and trade publications and contributes to periodicals such as Supermarket News, Progressive Grocer, RetailWire.com, CPGmatters.com, Marketing@Retail and Chain Store Age. He has made numerous television and radio appearances, and is a frequent speaker at industry trade shows and conferences.
James earned his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and studied Media at New York University and Consumer Behavior at the University of Arizona's Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing.


Andrew Karl, VP of
Business Development
Andrew is responsible
for managing partnership growth and assisting with corporate strategy formation.
Andrew has previously
consulted for several startups including an internet market
analytics venture. He has also worked as a lead engineer
for Carrier Corporation, a division of United Technologies
(NYSE:UTX), helping launch one of the company’s biggest
products to date.
Andrew earned his B.S.
in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Evansville and
completed an MBA at Indiana University’s Kelley School of
Business with a focus on new ventures and entrepreneurial
management. He has also studied abroad in England at
Harlaxton College.
