Solutions > Healthcare > Ugicare
Ugicare is the electronic healthcare marketplace enabling patients, providers and payers to
interact with each others more conveniently, securely and efficiently. Ugicare is a contraction of the Greek word Ugitha for health, and the English word Care. Simply put, Ugicare is our redefinition of healthcare in the 21st century.
How Ugicare Works
As a patient-centric platform, Ugicare leverages commercially available NFC-enabled USB dongles and next-generation mobile phones for two-factor authentication -based identity management.
Smart card chips used in NFC-enabled devices are the ideal building blocks for today's healthcare IT system implementations requiring compliance with HIPAA and HITECH privacy and security requirements. In its simplest form, Ugicare may be regarded as an enabler for mobile identity management in healthcare.
Patients equipped with Ugicare-powered USB dongles or mobile phones can have secure access
to their personal health information (allergies, conditions, immunizations, medications,...) and insurance data while at home or on the go, and identify themselves while visiting healthcare providers by simply tapping their
personal devices on certified contactless point-of-care terminals. The fast and secure identification method uses a patent-pending authentication mechanism which allows them to avoid filling out daunting paper forms as authorized providers can automatically and confidentially have access to their digital health records and verify their benefit eligibilities.
Providers, ranging from physicians to pharmacists,
use the paperless and cost-effective Ugicare platform for secure, accurate and
improved continuity of care. NFC devices allow them to streamline the patient registration process and rapidly access to up-to-date digital health records, improving thus the patient visit experience through easier access to care, reduced waiting time period and minimized clinical errors. By automating health insurance coverage verification, the Ugicare system may further be utilized for submitting claims and initiating real-time adjudication of these claims by payers.
Payers, ranging from private insurance companies to government agencies, leverage the Ugicare-powered patient devices as their digitally-issued insurance cards. The platform enables them to significantly reduce the cost of issuing cards and processing claims,
mitigate abuses and frauds, and sustain affordable and quality healthcare coverage to their policy members.
As an open-platform, Ugicare is not intended to reinvent the wheel. It can be integrated with current legacy applications and deployed e-prescription/e-claim systems. Ugicare is integrated with Dossia, the Personally Controlled Health Record (PCHR) platform based on the open-source project Indivo. The Dossia consortium regroups large employers such as Walmart, AT&T, BP America, Intel, Sanofi-Aventis totaling over 5 million employees.
